Approved work: Reform of the Mental Health Act – people with learning difficulties and autism
This POSTnote will explore the implications of the Government's proposals to reform the Act and summarise stakeholder perspectives.

This POSTbrief will be a technical explainer introducing AI technologies. It will explain the main types of AI, give examples of their current and potential future applications, and provide a glossary of common terminology.
AI has featured prominently within recent political and media discourse, especially following the launch of ChatGPT. The UK Government is developing policy in this area, for example through its recent paper on ‘A pro-innovation approach to AI regulation’, and has announced notable investments that include approximately £900 million for a new ‘exascale’ supercomputer capable of running large AI models and a dedicated AI Research Resource. The Government is also planning to host a global summit on AI safety in Autumn 2023.
