This POSTnote will provide an overview of the types of biometric data, along with current and potential uses and benefits such as improved security in authentications and the role of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The POSTnote will also examine the current and potential misuses and concerns of biometric data – whether collected on individuals or en masse – such as privacy, security, trust and discrimination.  Finally, this POSTnote could also outline regulations in the UK and internationally.  It will update the 2018 POSTnote on Biometric technologies
